"Wai" means water in Hawaiian.... that which is essential for life.  "Kiki" means "spouting" in Hawaiian..... as in a spring or fountain.  Waikiki was named such due to the many natural springs that came down from the mountains and provided fresh drinking water to what became a flourishing and iconic community.......
